I want to download mod but is cant

@Joe Oldendick: In Minecraft 1.8.1 there is only one mod available, please install Minecraft 1.8 or 1.7.10 first and restart Modinstaller. Than you have the big choice.

@LilZorak @Your Name: Please ensure that no firewall blocks the internet connection of Java (especially Norton):
If an error message appears that the program cannot access the Internet, control that Windows system tray (at the lower right) indicates that a connection to the Internet is established.
If you are connected to the Internet and a message appears while starting the installer, it is possible that a virus protection program denies Java the access to the Internet. Please disable the anti-virus program for the time you install mods in this case.

I have downloaded Modinstaller, but it is permanently in offline mode. It does not show any mods to install - how to I get it onto ONline??

online mode not working

My son recently installed ALL the mods he could find in "forge" column. However now when we are trying to UNINSTALL, ( ie , selecting a few mods in right column, and then hitting the minus "-" button, the mods dont get uninstalled... any thoughts ?

um I have a mac and the mac version of mc mod install 4.2 isnt working

In the case of Optifine this is incorrect, as long as the suitable version of Optifine upto the same version as Forge is installed/put in Forge´s "mods" folder it ´should´ work fine.
( So versions for 1.8 upto OptiFine_1.8.0_HD_U_D3.jar for the 1.8 version of Forge )

N.B. I´ve used Optifine myself this way.
