I install the mod then when i open minecraft then i start minecraft and it doesnt open the minecraft menu its just like i never open miinecraft. Can someone help me??

i downloaded the new version and double clicked the icon on the desktop and the hourglass would pop beside my cursor and stay on for a few seconds and then go off for a few seconds and come back on and do it again and it keeps doing that i tried to re download the program and it still does not work HELP ME PLEASE
